Some crochet

Ahhh crochet. I do love it. I'm not as fast as some people, I'm rather prone to making cushions and questionable colour choices and having far too many projects on the go, but I love it. Those moments of quiet repetition when I can just hook in and out, pulling a bit of wool certain ways to make shapes. It's ace. Well here's a few things I made. Perhaps the girls will read this one day and say "Oh I remember that blanket / cushion" and feel nostalgic. Perhaps.

I actually made these wristwarmers for Brooke late last year to match her scarf. Around Christmas time or so, she lost them. Haven't seen them since. Suspect they may be lurking in a corner at nursery. Subsequently not yet been enormously inclined to make her any more.

I find it strange that this is the first granny square blanket I've attempted given that GS were the reason I wanted to learn in the first place. I like this but I find it a bit too stop / start in nature. And all those ends I'll have to weave in... Not relishing that at all. (Like the colours though.)
So I am also making a granny stripe blanket, rather like a scarf I made for a friend's little girl last year. This is enormous, 300 stitches across. It takes a whole evening to do one row sometimes, especially if we're watching The Killing (i.e. reading subtitles) at the same time. But it's flowing and less stop / starty so I prefer doing it at the moment. I'll probably still be working on this next year.

This is a mouse I made for Taya's godmother, Mia. Miss Mouse. With fabric ears made from a hanky I got at a car boot sale a few months ago. Also made Mia a matching little mini purse which turned out to be perfectly ipod sized. Same mouse-ear fabric for lining.

Got some gorgeous wool from Yvestown. SUCH a scrummy parcel to receive! No, no idea yet what I'll make with it, like 99% of the rest of the wool I've ever bought and which is currently languishing in my stash box. Just nice to own it though.

Then my lovely friend Emma asked me to teach her to crochet. Well what's that quote about the student becoming the master? Yep, she's mastered it alright and is now regularly showing me up with completed projects all over the place. Since she is clearly a natural I thought I would have a stab at making her a hook roll holder thingy and this is how it turned out. Sewing is NOT my forte so apologies for the stitching and the fact that it curls up at one end.

It's not really as brightly pink as this photo might suggest. In fact this is it "for real life" ( (c) Brooke.)

Next I want to make some little baskets and may make another attempt at a cardigan for the girls.

There's been plenty of other things going on for real life too, but that's a whole other post.
